Our Mission

Today’s media specialists are much more than professionals who check books in and out. Future Ready Media Specialists design collaborative spaces, build instructional partnerships, empower students as creators, curate digital resources and tools, facilitate professional learning, invest strategically in digital resources, cultivate community partnerships, promote digital literacy and citizenship, and lead beyond the library.

About the Learning Lab

After the 2016-2017 school year, we formed a vision to dramatically change our library to better serve our students and staff. A significant part of that vision was moving our book collection to teacher classrooms and turning the space into a 21st Century Learning Lab that provides the flexible learning space students need to engage in Project Based Learning and to develop the 21st century skills necessary to be productive, responsible citizens. The Learning Lab is equipped with nine dry-erase markerboard top activity tables with charging stations, 30 tilt-top markerboard tables, nine 50 inch TV monitors, soundproof glass conference rooms, and MacBooks.

Mrs. Mangen: High School Library Media Specialist

Meet Our Media Specialist

I serve as the Library Media Specialist at Northmont High School and Northmont Middle School. I am passionate about creating challenging environments that meet the diverse needs of all students and develop the 21st-century skills they need to be successful after high school. As a science teacher, I created a blended learning environment by embracing digital technology tools that have proven to increase student motivation, achievement, and engagement.

I am a certified Apple Teacher and hold a Master’s degree in Educational Technology. Beyond the classroom, I am deeply involved in the school community as the Varsity Girls Soccer Coach, the high school Webmaster, and the organizer of the annual Aileron Student Leadership Summit each summer.

Media Center Policies

  • The MacBooks do not leave the IMC under any circumstances.
  • No eating or drinking in the media center.
  •  If students wish to check out physical books, a three-week loan period will be established.
  • Passes to the Learning Lab can only be obtained by the Media Specialist. No passes are permitted on behalf of classroom teachers unless there is prior communication with the Media Specialist. Immediately upon entering the Learning Lab, all students should turn in their hall pass at the circulation desk.
  • Students are expected to be on task and use technology appropriately. Students are not permitted to play games or have conversations unrelated to an assigned task.
  • If students are disruptive or violate any established rules, a warning will be issued and behavior will be documented. A second violation will warrant privileges being revoked for five (5) days or the student receiving a detention at the discretion of the Learning Lab staff. A third violation will result in a referral to their administrator and may result in loss of privileges for a quarter.
  • The Learning Lab is open to students from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm each day.
